Senior Treaty Underwriter

About the Role:
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Treaty Underwriting Manager to lead and develop our treaty reinsurance portfolio across Asia region. This is a senior, hands-on role for a proven treaty underwriter with strongtrack-record and market credibility, sound technical judgment, and the ability to balance growth with disciplined risk management.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead underwriting, structuring, and renewal of treaty reinsurance programs across assigned regions
- Manage a diversified portfolio including but not limited to Property, Casualty, Motor, Engineering, and Energy treaties
- Drive portfolio strategy in line with underwriting guidelines, capital appetite, and profitability targets
- Lead technical and commercial negotiations with cedents and brokers.
- Review loss experience, portfolio performance, and exposure trends, working closely with actuarial and claims teams
- Represent underwriting positions to senior management and internal committees
- Support and mentor underwriting team members, contributing to talent development and technical depth
Experience & Technical Requirements
- 7+ years of reinsurance experience, with preference in treaty underwriting
- Experience leading treaty portfolios across Asia region, preferably south Asia
- Strong technical understanding of treaty structures, pricing fundamentals, loss analysis, and wordings
- Demonstrated ability to independently lead renewals and manage complex negotiations
- Strong understanding of regional regulatory environments and market dynamics
Commercial & Market Profile
- Established relationships with major international and regional brokers
- Strong commercial judgment with a disciplined underwriting mindset
- Ability to balance strategic market support with technical underwriting.
- Confident decision-maker able to challenge market practice when required
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Insurance, Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related field
- Professional insurance qualifications (ACII or equivalent) are strongly preferred
